Dr. Doug Clement

Dr. Doug Clement is an internationally recognized former Olympic and Commonwealth Games athlete and coach who has served as one of the principal pioneers in the field of sports medicine in Canada. He acts as the Global Ambassador for Fortius Sport & Health, promoting and advocating the cause of sport as a tool in athlete and health development in British Columbia, Canada and around the world. Dr. Clement represented Canada at two Olympics and two British Empire Games as part of the 4x400-metre relay team. He has been selected to Canada's teams in at least 30 international sporting events in the capacities of coach, general manager or member of the medical staff. He has since served as the director for several high-profile and dynamic organizations in their respective fields, including the Vancouver Sun Run, the Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine and the Canadian Olympic Committee. Dr. Clement is a co-founder of the Allan McGavin Sports Medicine Centre and as such, is seen as one of the fathers of sport medicine in Canada. In addition, he and his wife, Diane, co-founded the Richmond Kajaks, one of the premier track clubs in Canada. There, Dr. Clement has coached numerous track athletes to top rankings both nationally and internationally. He has been honored with the Sports Medicine Council Lifetime Achievement Award, Sport BC Coach of the Year Award, as well as the Order of Canada. He was named to the BC Sports Hall of Fame and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame.
