Fortius Sport & Health is an integrated athlete development centre strengthened through philanthropy and focused on optimizing human performance for life.
Poorly-fitting shoes can cause pain and discomfort, inhibit performance and potentially lead to foot and ankle injuries.
Fortius Pedorthists use an extensive assessment process to provide scientific recommendations for footwear and custom orthoses for individuals rehabilitating from a lower limb injury, struggling with pain, discomfort or chronic conditions in the foot or ankle, or seeking injury prevention.
In addition to assisting and alleviating many painful conditions, a subtle change or modifications to footwear can also aid in enhancing performance.
A one-hour assessment to include both dynamic and static assessments, gait analysis and range of motion testing of the lower limb, foot and ankle.
This package includes a one-hour assessment, custom orthotics fitting with any required casts or 3D scans, and any follow up appointments for six months following.
Following an initial assessment, the Pedorthist may recommend shoe modifications such as external lifts for leg length discrepancy, a rocker profile or sole stiffener. Cost will be identified during the initial assessment, dependent on the modifications recommended.
In addition to a one-hour assessment, this service includes an ankle/foot orthoses for drop foot, posterior tibial dysfunction, mid foot osteoarthritis and lateral instability. The cost also includes any follow up appointments for up to six months following.
Some forefoot injuries such as a turf toe, sesamoiditis and metatarsal fractures can be supported with a carbon fibre insole to promote offloading/immobilization for forefoot injuries. Cost will be identified during the initial assessment, dependent on the fitting requirements.
Appointments with Fortius Pedorthists require a referral from a family doctor (or other referring doctor). Some fees may be covered under an extended health care plan.
We believe it takes a community to keep athletes healthy. The Fortius Institute is committed to interdisciplinary communication and community collaboration with family physicians, therapists, coaches, and other specialists. Click the button below to learn more about our referral process.
