Fortius 5-on-5: Meet Dietitian Jessica Cochrane

In this edition of Fortius 5-on-5, we're dedicating five questions to our newest addition to the practitioner team: Registered Dietitian Jessica Cochrane. Five questions, one practitioner – and lots to learn about what her unique background brings to the Fortius family.

What is one of the most frequent pieces of nutritional advice you give?

With any behavioural change, start small and make realistic and achievable goals. Sustainability and consistency is key, especially with our diet!

What do you know now, as a registered dietitian, that you wish everyone knew?

That no food is “good or bad”, all foods can fit into your diet while still achieving your performance and health goals.

What is your personal dietitian philosophy?

Healthy eating shouldn’t cause stress or anxiety. For me, working with the client to develop a nutrition plan that is tailored to their specific needs and goals while ensuring it fits into their lifestyle is key for maintainable behavioural changes.

What excites you about working at Fortius, and its collaborative team of practitioners and coaches?

I believe that when an interdisciplinary approach is used, an athlete has the ability to perform their personal best. Working alongside a team of practitioners and coaches will give me the opportunity to learn and grow from others, and allow me to gain an understanding of all aspects of an individual’s health when providing nutrition counselling services.

What food is a favourite in your dietitian toolkit and why?

Hemp hearts! They are extremely versatile and pack 10g of protein and 12g of Omega-3’s & 6’s per serving. Sprinkle them on your breakfast cereal, or grab a handful to throw on salads or rice bowls. There is really no wrong way to use them!
