Season of Giving: Fortius Foundation events raise over $18,000 in DecemberDecember 20, 2019 | by Fortius Sport & Health
It was a busy month for the Fortius Foundation, as the holiday season began with two major events spanning two weeks: the inaugural Special Sunday Opening and the semi-annual Fortius Silent Auction. Together, these events raised over $18,000 for the Foundation.
The month began with the first Special Sunday Opening. In our Sports Medicine Clinic, practitioners from physiotherapy, chiropractic, massage therapy and hydrotherapy opened special appointment times. In our Fitness & Performance Centre, coaches offered PowerWatts classes, group and personal training and Pilates mat classes. All funds raised from these appointments and classes were donated to the Foundation, with a final total of almost $7,000.
Thank you to all clients who came in on their Sunday to see their practitioners and coaches and support the Foundation. The day was topped off with the announcement of a $22,000 donation from Industrial Alliance to support KidsMove.
That highly successful event was followed by a crowd favourite: the Fortius Silent Auction, hosted online this year. With items like a signed Brock Boeser Jersey, a team-signed Raptors basketball, hotel dining experiences and vintage Bordeaux wines up for grabs, the Foundation raised $11,338 — a new sales record in our silent auction history!
“The last few weeks have been amazing for our foundation. Having so many Fortius practitioners, coaches and staff step up to volunteer their time for our Sunday opening was just incredible, and we were so happy to smash our sales record for the auction,” Foundation Director Andy Price said.
“We’ve raised vital dollars for our programs and we’ve spread the word about our unique charitable work to many more people. I want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.”
All funds raised go back to the various initiatives the Fortius Foundation supports, including the KidsMove Schools program and BACK in the Game.
Hosted throughout the school year at Fortius, KidsMove integrates physical literacy, and lifestyle and mental skills to support the development of children aged 9-12. The 10-week program is provided at no cost to the schools involved.
BACK in the Game is a cutting-edge treatment program for youth with chronic back pain or acute back injury. The program integrates physiotherapy, Pilates, yoga and traditional strength and conditioning in a group environment for youth aged 11-19. The Foundation helps subsidize the cost of this program to help aspiring athletes return to play.
Overall, it was an incredibly successful end to another wonderful year for the Foundation. We can’t wait to see what 2020 has in store!
